British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Chinese President Xi Jinping that he wanted to build a "sophisticated relationship" with Beijing to bolster security and the economy, signalling a reset after years of strained ties. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Europe had found "self-respect" in standing up for a rules-based global order, and called for a stronger NATO within Europe while still extending the hand of cooperation to the United States.
