Trump has postponed strikes on Iranian energy targets, saying that his top aides have reached some consensus in talks with Iran. But Tehran called claims of negotiations 'fake news.' In other news Due to California's quirky electoral system and a crowded field of candidates, Democrats are suddenly facing an unlikely but unpleasant possibility: getting locked out of the general election this fall to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom, who is not permitted to run for a third term. The US Senate confirmed Trump's nominee for Homeland Security secretary, Markwayne Mullin, to replace outgoing Kristi Noem, heralding a shift in leadership as public support for Trump's immigration crackdown has fallen. Investigators probing the deadly collision of an Air Canada Express jet with a fire truck at New York's LaGuardia airport said they wanted to interview an air traffic controller who was juggling another emergency in ‌the run-up to the crash. A Colombian military plane crashed in a takeoff disaster, killing 66 people as rescuers shuttled dozens of survivors to nearby hospitals and searched for four ‌who were still missing, according to a top official. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his country would permanently strengthen its nuclear forces and treat South Korea as its most hostile state, as he set out policy ‌priorities in a speech to parliament, state media KCNA reported.

Business & Markets   German plans for a $11.6 billion military satellite network independent of a parallel European programme are raising red flags among some EU lawmakers over potential duplication, fragmentation of efforts and cost. Amazon said its Amazon Web Services unit in Bahrain has been "disrupted" amid the current conflict ‌in the Middle East, marking the second time in a month that its operations have been affected by the war. Estee Lauder is in talks regarding a potential business combination with Spanish beauty group Puig, in a deal that would bring some of the world's biggest beauty and ‌fragrance brands such as Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, Rabanne and Clinique under one roof. The deal would create a $40 billion luxury beauty group. India's Reliance Industries, operator of the world's biggest refining complex, has purchased 5 million barrels of Iranian crude, days after the US temporarily removed sanctions on ‌the oil, three sources familiar with the matter said. Australia and the European Union signed a trade deal that was eight years in the making, removing tariffs for almost all ‌European goods and for nearly all exports of Australian critical minerals. OpenAI has 900 million users and an $840 billion valuation, yet its financial future is unsure. China maps the ocean floor as it prepares for submarine warfare with the US   REUTERS/Illustration/Catherine Tai Dozens of Chinese research vessels are on a quest to map the sea floor at strategically vital regions of the world's oceans. Some of the surveying is for mineral deposits and fishing grounds, but the data the ships collect has a military application. It gives Beijing a detailed picture of the maritime environment in which submarine battles will be waged if conflict erupts, naval experts say. Read the full article
