America has decided. Donald Trump was elected president, capping a remarkable comeback four years after he was voted out of the White House. Today, we bring you key takeaways from the presidential race, what to expect from Trump's second term, and who will be in the running for his administration's top jobs. We also look at the impact on global markets, and reactions from around the world. Trump vows to reshape executive branch, prioritize personal loyalty. REUTERS/Brian Snyder Trump recaptured the White House by securing more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency, following a campaign of dark rhetoric that deepened the polarization in the country. "America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate," the 78-year-old said to a roaring crowd of supporters. Republicans also won control of the US Senate with victories in West Virginia and Ohio, ensuring Trump's party will control at least one chamber of Congress next year. They also posted early gains as they battled to retain control of the House of Representatives. Across the globe

France's Emmanuel Macron was among the first to congratulate Trump – other EU leaders followed. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy praised the Republican's "peace through strength" approach, while Russia floated the idea of resetting relations. Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu talked about "a new beginning for America". China will work with the US on the basis of mutual respect, the government said, but strategists indicate Beijing was bracing for four more years of bitter superpower rivalry over trade, technology and security issues.

Investors bought dollars, bitcoin and stocks, and sold bonds as Trump claimed victory. We look at how the Republican presidency could weigh on bonds, emerging markets, clean energy and sustainable investing. Trump could begin the process of choosing a cabinet and selecting other high-ranking administration officials in the coming weeks. Here are the top contenders for some of the key posts overseeing defense, diplomacy, immigration and economic policymaking. While some of his proposals would require congressional approval, we also have a summary of the policies he has said he would pursue in his second term in office. It includes more tariffs, mass deportations and investigating enemies.

REUTERS/Alexandre Meneghini Hurricane Rafael is passing through the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean and is forecast to rapidly intensify before making landfall in western Cuba, according to the US National Hurricane Center. At least 89 people remain missing after deadly floods in eastern Spain, the regional judicial authorities in Valencia said, and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he was earmarking 10.6 billion euros to help victims. Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing a “crisis of trust”, and replaced him with close ally Israel Katz to lead his country’s war in Gaza and Lebanon. Gallant's firing removes a thorn in Netanyahu's side. Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that the first battles between the Ukrainian military and North Korean troops "open a new page in instability in the world". Separately, Ukraine's air defense units destroyed 38 out of 63 Russian drones overnight. Apple is set to be fined by the European Union's antitrust regulators under the bloc's landmark rules aimed at reining in the power of Big Tech, making it the first company to be sanctioned, sources with direct knowledge of the matter said. Ending the strike only stemmed the bleeding at Boeing. Now, CEO Kelly Ortberg, just three months into the job, is faced with repairing a divided, demoralized and drifting American corporate icon. The strike has exposed divides that run right through the company.
