Welcome back: Xi is wrapping up his visit to Washington where Trump has laid out the pomp but said little about lingering US-China tensions. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon) POLITICS Trump lays out the pomp for Xi but says little about US-China tensions Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping met for high stakes talks on Thursday at an urgent moment for the U.S.-China relationship, with their countries in a generational contest for economic and technological dominance. What to know: The two appear to be betting that a combination of personal rapport and mutual interest can prevent the competition from boiling over into open conflict.  “President Xi and I have forged a friendship, a truly great friendship” said Trump as he welcomed Xi to the White House. Xi said Chinese and American interests are “deeply intertwined” and that the “competition should be a healthy one and should be kept within bounds.” The two sides on Wednesday agreed to extend by two months a one-year trade truce that was set to expire Nov. 10 as they work to find a more durable agreement. The Trumps feted his guests Thursday night with a black-tie state dinner. Tech titans, including Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, and Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk were among the 130 guests invited, but Chinese CEOs were conspicuously absent. While Trump has offered plenty of glitz, some China analysts observed that the talks seemed light on substance.

Another U.N. official shared with AP minutes from meetings where UNRWA and the committee discussed collaborating on plans for Gaza. Read more.

What to know: A Board of Peace official confirmed that board members had met multiple times with UNRWA officials. And while the agency’s days are over, its programs “may persist if they are serving Gazans well,” the official added, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.   Israel’s foreign ministry did not respond when asked about these remarks. Israel wants the agency known as UNRWA out of Gaza and has repeatedly accused it of being infiltrated by Hamas militants, allegations the International Court of Justice says have not been substantiated. And yet UNRWA remains the territory’s largest aid provider, playing a key role in health and education.

In some cases, regulators said the companies shared users’ health data with online platforms such as Meta and Google, without getting permission. Read more.

What to know before signing up: Privacy experts recommend using ad blockers and private web browsers — sometimes called “incognito” windows — when logging onto telehealth websites. Those tools can make it harder for companies to track your location, online history and other personal information.

(AP Photo/Bilal Hussein) Divers are finding their way back to Lebanon’s ‘sunken city’ In the Lebanese city of Tyre, known for its Roman ruins, purple dye and its much older Phoenician past, history is easy to spot. Some of it requires a wetsuit. Beneath the waters of the Mediterranean Sea lie stoned walls, ancient structures and a submerged road — remnants of a city that once stood above the water. The war had raised concerns over its preservation but following a June ceasefire, divers are slowly returning to explore what lies below.
