Today's Top News   Markets Japan's benchmark 10-year bond yield struck the key 3% barrier for the first time since 1996, amid a deepening global debt selloff as traders fret about oil-driven inflation, monetary tightening and worsening fiscal conditions. With ‌the Middle East crisis stoking price pressures globally, yields have been spiking from Tokyo and Sydney to New York and London as investors anticipate the need for central banks to raise interest rates. Here's what analysts are saying about the selloff. In other news Donald Trump's Truth Social post claiming Iran's Kharg Island was "blown to smithereens" is raising questions about the use of social media as a foreign policy tool. An ex-street gang leader accused of orchestrating the drive-by shooting death of hip-hop star Tupac Shakur three decades ago in Las ‌Vegas was convicted of murder for his role in a long-unsolved crime that silenced one of rap music's most influential voices. Russian air attacks killed 12 people and injured several more in Kyiv and the surrounding region, authorities said, in the sixth consecutive day of strikes on the Ukrainian capital.

France started imposing penalties on the extreme end of fast fashion to try to curb a surge in sales of cheap clothing sold by e-commerce sites including Shein and Temu. Indian authorities have raided an illegal operation in Mumbai that faked expiry dates and nutritional information on original food products manufactured by PepsiCo, Nestle, Coca-Cola and Unilever so they could be exported to other countries. Surging global demand for AI hardware kept Asia's factories humming in August, private ‌surveys showed, brightening prospects for the export-reliant region even as the prolonged Middle East war fuels uncertainty and rising costs. North American Blue Energy Partners will take over some oilfields previously controlled by several Chinese companies and a Russian firm. The takeover will be part ‌of a sweeping oil production agreement that President Donald Trump announced with Venezuela.
