REUTERS/Ronen Zvulun/File Photo One of Israel's ultra-Orthodox parties, United Torah Judaism, said it was quitting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ruling coalition due to a long-running dispute over the failure to draft a bill to exempt yeshiva students from military service. The US Senate will begin voting on President Donald Trump's request to slash $9.4 billion in spending on foreign aid and public broadcasting previously approved by Congress, the latest test of Trump's control over his fellow Republicans. The US Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration to resume dismantling the Department of Education, part of his bid to shrink the federal government's role in education in favor of more control by the states. The Trump administration is launching a new effort to keep immigrants who entered the US illegally detained by denying them bond hearings, an internal memo showed, a change that could further swell the numbers of those held. Daniel Martindale, a US citizen who helped the Kremlin target Ukrainian troops and was then spirited out of eastern Ukraine by Russian special forces, has received a Russian passport in Moscow. Japan's ruling coalition will likely lose its majority in the upper house election on July 20, media polls showed, heightening the risk of political instability at a time when the country is struggling to strike a trade deal with the US.

Business & Markets   China's GDP grew 5.2% in the April-June quarter from a year earlier, slowing from 5.4% in the first quarter, in a show of resilience against US tariffs. However, analysts warn that Beijing is expected to roll out more stimulus due to weak demand at home and rising global trade risks. Chinese firms are scrambling to buy Nvidia H20 artificial intelligence chips, two sources told Reuters, as the company said it plans to resume sales to the mainland days after its CEO met Trump. Tesla launched its Model Y at about $70,000 in India, the highest price among major markets, as it bets on prospects in a country CEO Elon Musk has long criticised for its high import tariffs. US consumer prices likely picked up in June, potentially marking the start of a long-anticipated, tariff-induced increase in inflation. For more, watch our daily rundown on financial markets. The 30% tariff on European goods threatened by Trump would, if implemented, be a game-changer for Europe, wiping out whole chunks of transatlantic commerce and forcing a rethink of its export-led economic model. The EU is targeting Boeing and US-made bourbon for possible tariffs if trade talks with Washington fail. Trump will join executives from some of the largest US tech and energy companies for a summit in Pittsburgh as the administration prepares fresh measures to power the expansion of artificial intelligence. Mark Zuckerberg said that Meta Platforms would spend hundreds of billions of dollars to build several massive AI data centers for superintelligence, intensifying his pursuit of a technology he has chased with a talent war for top engineers.

Argentine Ministry of Security/Handout via REUTERS/File Photo The Argentinian Supreme Court had found a dozen boxes of Nazi documents in its basement archive containing photos of Hitler as well as thousands of red Nazi labor organization membership booklets stamped with the swastika of the Third Reich. The court called Eliahu Hamra, the rabbi of Argentina's main Jewish community center, for advice about how to handle the discovery. The conversation with the rabbi was an important early step in a coordinated effort between the Supreme Court and Jewish community leaders to bring  the trove of documents to light. The find surfaced at a time when Argentina is demonstrating new readiness to look back at its complicated history with Nazis in the war era. Read our story
