The US Justice Department unit charged with defending against legal challenges to signature Trump administration policies - such as restricting birthright citizenship and slashing funding to Harvard University - has lost nearly two-thirds of its staff, according to a list seen by Reuters. Federal officials defended Trump's escalating campaign to deport immigrants in the US illegally, including a California farm raid that left one worker dead, and said the administration would appeal a ruling to halt some of its more aggressive tactics. The fuel switch locks are the focus of the investigation into last month's Air India crash after a preliminary report found that moments before the plane came down the fuel to both engines was cut off. India Aviation Correspondent Abhijith Ganapavaram joins the Reuters World News podcast with the latest developments. At least eight Palestinians, most of them children, were killed and more than a dozen were wounded in central Gaza when they went to collect water, local officials said, in an Israeli strike which the military said missed its target. Six members of Syria's security forces have been killed in the predominantly Druze city of Sweida, a security source told Reuters, after they deployed to halt deadly sectarian clashes that local media reported had resumed.
