REUTERS/Ronen Zvulun Israel-Iran conflict Iranian missiles struck Israel's Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa before dawn, killing at least eight people and destroying homes, prompting Israel's defence minister to warn that Tehran residents would "pay the price and soon". Iran has told mediators Qatar and Oman that it is not open to negotiating a ceasefire while it is under Israeli attack, raising fears of a wider conflict. US President Donald Trump vetoed an Israeli plan in recent days to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, two US officials told Reuters. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has brushed it off as "false reports of conversation that never happened." Day two of the G7 summit in Canada gets underway with the Israel-Iran conflict high on the agenda. Jarrett Renshaw tells the Reuters World News podcast that President Trump says he’s confident a deal between Iran and Israel is coming.  US aircraft carrier USS Nimitz left the South China Sea heading west in the direction of the Middle East, according to data from ship tracking website Marine Traffic, after a reception for its planned port call in central Vietnam was cancelled. In other news The Trump administration is considering significantly expanding its travel restrictions by potentially banning citizens of 36 additional countries from entering the United States. A massive two-day manhunt ended with the arrest of Vance Boelter, 57, for allegedly killing a Minnesota Democratic state lawmaker and her husband while posing as a police officer.  An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane bound for New Delhi returned to its origin of Hong Kong as a precautionary measure after a technical issue was suspected mid-air, the latest incident affecting the airline in recent days. For the first time, France's anti-terrorism body is taking over a murder investigation inspired by far-right ideas. The move is indicative of a broader shift in France, where jihadist attacks have fallen while racist, xenophobic or anti-religious crimes are up amid growing support for the far-right.
