Hello. The Trump administration's deployment of Marines to LA puts Newsom in a political predicament, at least nine people dead in an Austrian school attack, and price wars grip China as deflation deepens. Plus, the release of K-pop megastars RM and V from the army has BTS fans anticipating a reunion.

REUTERS/Aude Guerrucci  United States President Donald Trump's administration ordered US Marines into Los Angeles and intensified raids on suspected undocumented immigrants, fueling more outrage from street protesters and Democratic leaders. Trumps' decision to send the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles has created substantial political risks for California Governor Gavin Newsom. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s dismissal of an independent panel of experts citing the goal of restoring trust in vaccines could undermine confidence in those available now. It could put Americans at risk of preventable infectious diseases, public health experts and others said. In other news At least nine people were reported killed and a number of others injured in a shooting at a school in the southern Austrian city of Graz, the city's mayor said. Russia launched one of its largest air strikes on Kyiv in over three years of war and struck a maternity ward in the southern city of Odesa in attacks that killed at least two people. Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg was deported from Israel, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said, the day after the Israeli navy prevented her and a group of fellow pro-Palestinian activists from sailing to Gaza. Philippine senators are preparing to be sworn in as jurors in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, who faces a lifetime political ban if convicted of high crimes and betraying the public trust. Taipei prosecutors indicted four people suspected of spying for China in a case that reached Taiwan's presidential office, seeking jail terms of more than 18 years.

Business & Markets   As deflationary pressures mount in China, consumer behaviour is changing in ways that could lead to further downward pressure on prices, raising concerns that deflation could become entrenched, posing more headaches for the world's second-largest economy's policymakers. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said trade talks with China were going well as the two sides met for a second day in London, seeking a breakthrough on export controls that have threatened a fresh rupture between the superpowers. Warner Brothers is splitting into two publicly traded companies, separating its studios and streaming business from its fading television networks. It's the latest chapter in the great unraveling of decades of media consolidation and Dawn Chmielewski is on the Reuters World News podcast to dig into what's behind the breakup. Morgan Stanley is marketing a $5 billion package of bonds and two loans on behalf of billionaire Elon Musk-owned xAI, at the same time as a falling out between the world's richest man and the US president plays out in public, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. Chinese electric-vehicle makers led by BYD beat Tesla in the competition to produce affordable electric vehicles. Now, many of those same fierce competitors are pulling into the passing lane in the global race to produce self-driving cars.
